Re: general methods for linear temperament notation
Also, for the record, there are some thoughts about general linear temperament notation at least in the first post of the mavila temperament topic here.

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
Oh I see. Using 2 shafts to represent the 3C seemed bad to me at first, because what if you ever needed to shift by the 3C twice? But, as I said in my previous post, you'd never need to shift by it more than once, so using 2 shafts for it is fine. I think that's better because for any given 1-shaft ...

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
I agree with Yahya that your proposed unevenly-spaced lines (or more-to-the-point, unevenly-spaced staff positions) won't work very well with symbols designed for evenly-spaced lines. Fair enough. The fact that I don't see something like my proposal anywhere in this Music Notation Project's galleri...

Re: an approach for non-octave tunings
Good catch. Thanks. Corrected. Well, that's certainly encouraging that my idea has passed the Dave test for notational craziness or heresy. Now that I have a mote of confidence, I'll subject myself to wider feedback from one of those microtonal Facebook groups. Update: apparently no one cares about ...

Re: Yer: a Sagittal study
That's an amazing quote, Dave. As a looney composer, I will admit that it feels most right to me to refuse to compromise, to create works of art which are utterly unrecognizable and adventurous, which demand a severe commitment from those who would engage with it, whether audience or performer. I su...

Re: Sagittal beer
Unfortunately I can't say anything good about this which I picked up from the store recently: https://forum.sagittal.org/download/file.php?mode=view&id=322 I grabbed it because I thought a pasty (that's what I call this meal; not sure if it's a common American thing or not) sounded nice in a pin...

Re: Prime-factor Sagittal JI notation (one symbol per prime)
Can I please have two tweaks to that image? 1. Nudge the inverted "1" and "3" of the 13th harmonic mnemonic up just enough to open up a gap between the 1 and the staff-line, as is already the case for the first "1" of the 11th harmonic mnemonic. 2. Change the word &quo...

Re: 15&22 (Porcupine) notation
Per Dave's suggestion, I have broken this topic off at the point it veered away from Porcupine-specific discussion toward other linear temperaments, and linear temperaments in general. You can find the continuation of that discussion here.

Re: general methods for linear temperament notation
Thanks for the nudge, Dave. I decided to split out only a topic for general linear temperament notation, because to extract the parts specific to Miracle would have required doing some surgery on Herman's writing :) If you have enough dedicated stuff to say about Miracle, of course, you are free to ...

Re: Prime-factor Sagittal JI notation (one symbol per prime)
If you prefer the vectorized version I put together for the upcoming tutorial video, I can snapshot that instead. Yes, please replace it with your new version. Done. Re: the proposition for a related image which goes up to prime 23, I think it gets kind of messy past 16 because the harmonics stop b...
