Re: How can I notate my own temperament?
Well, the simplest way to notate this temperament - simplicity is good! :) - would be to only use sharps (:#:) or flats (:b:), each according to your preference for - for example, calling a key "F:#:" or "G:b:". An accompanying textual note to explain the actual tunings of each n...

Your suggestions: |( nai [existing] |(( ngai |((( ngnai /| pai [existing] /|( panai /|(( pangai /|((( pangnai //| phai [existing] //|( phanai //|(( phangai //|((( phangnai ///| phpai almost all use only open syllables CV , if we construe e.g. pangai as pa + ngai , rather than as pang + ai . Would it...

Re: The origin of Sagittal
Guys, history is wonderful; moreover, history is necessary: history tells us who we are and where we came from. Thank you both so much for making these records accessible. History, according to George Orwell, is a tale told by the winners; so, without history, who wins? But we're certainly winning n...

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
In your research on alternative notations, is any member familiar with the books written by Gardner Read on the subject? See the Wikipedia article on Gardner Read, Bibliography section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gardner_Read#Bibliography , which includes these titles: -- (1978). Modern Rhythmic ...

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
Dave, thanks for that link, and the gentle corrections. ("Almost correct" is "wrong", methinks!).
But shouldn't the N@ represent a "minor oneirofourth (aka major fourth, rising fourth)" rather than a "minor oneirofifth (aka major fourth, rising fourth)"?

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
So, Dave, your basic "oneirotonic scale (LLsLLsLs)" would be J K L M N O P Q (J), with 3 "third-tone" steps in an 8-nominal oneirotonic scale, roughly corresponding to the 2 semitone steps of a 7-nominal diatonic? And the smallest EDOs for these two cases are 18-edo and 12-edo re...

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
As far as I understand it, I think your proposal to use vertical pitch height more rationally (logarithmically) does make sense. … But why not just correct the irregularity? … Let me describe the end result, in case it's not already clear in your mind (sorry, I've nabbed images for all the things I'...

Re: an approach for non-octave tunings
As I've suggested elsewhere recently, perhaps another set of nominals would suit this case better. Then every tritave would start on the same tritave, and all tritaves of any note would share the same nominal. For a scale with 9 notes per tritave, you might use, say, the nominals P, Q, R, S, T, U, V...

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
To start near the end of your post: Another excellent quality of the piano-roll notation (which I think of as a "player piano", or pianola, notation, having when a child delighted in my grandparent's instrument of that type) is this: that it shows both the start and the end of each note. A...

Re: Yer: a Sagittal study
Cents deviations might be useful for dumb machine instructions. But for musically aware performers, are they like training wheels on a bike? Somebody who learns to ride with training wheels may never nerve themselves to take them off. Perhaps they're also like blinkers on a horse? A horse's blinkers...
