Re: Key Signatures and MOS Notation
I agree with Dave that key signatures should not be used with decatonics. They should be reserved for rather special cases of microtonal music, anyway. In the case of decatonics, they certainly make reading the notation slower and prone to mistakes. In classical music - the most notation-based genre...

Re: 13-limit JI
But you are now talking about a notation system for 224edo, aren't you? Of course such a system, and indeed a much smaller one, is fine for playback. Some EDO will be used in a playback engine, anyway - 1200EDO is common in hardware synths. But by JI notations I always refer to a one-symbol-per-prim...

Re: 13-limit JI
Hi, that's more or less the same answer I got from Mr. Spreadbury last December - after which I lamented here on the Sagittal forum that combining accidentals will not be possible in Dorico (as the Steinberg software is called). While it's true that we won't need a separate symbol for each combinati...

Re: JI notation comparison
It is the 5 comma notation in S&vS that I find particularly bad. 1. It uses a full arrow, which several other notations have used for the much larger alterations of quartertones or 11-dieses. 2. The arrow is vertically nowhere near the notehead to which it applies. This could be confusing in ch...

Re: JI notation comparison
Thank you Dave! I'll write them on the staff. I'll have to study the Athenian symbols to see how they approximate the precise ratios. As I've said before, while it certainly looks clearer, for a performer of music in JI this is not necessarily the better solution because it doesn't show (well, maybe...

JI notation comparison
https://forum.sagittal.org/download/file.php?mode=view&id=12 image.jpg In this pic an elegant scale recently discussed on the microtonal forums - an otonality from 1/1 and an utonality from 15/8, comprising 12 notes - is notated in both Johnston's and Sabat's JI notation. Could someone please p...

Re: JI Notation Spreadsheet
And would it be possible to make a version, possibly an online calculator on this forum, with actual Sagittal accidentals rather than the extremely-unpleasant-to-read and off-putting ASCII symbols? - I now got the Spreadsheet working, though, I don't know what the problem was previously: it didn't c...

Re: 5n edos
Excellent, there they are. I just didn't know where to look and gave up after some tries....Bravura and Character Range: 456: U+E380...U+E3FF, I see the expected Sagittals.
Thanks for the 13 diesis explanation - very neat.
