Re: developing a notational comma popularity metric

I note that the subject of this thread ultimately became: Developing a notational comma badness metric. Things hopped back and forth a bit between this thread and the Magrathean diacritics thread. The final badness metric (that was used indirectly in obtaining the final list of tina commas) was: Fro...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

When I imported the 8-pixel-per-staff-space bitmaps into the background layer of the 2 and 3 dent symbols of your latest .sfd file above, it became apparent that the scrolls in the 3 dent symbol were not as far apart vertically as they should have been. They were only offset by 199 font units when t...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

Hi Nick, ndentonprotsack So much for me getting to it "in a few days". Sorry. But I am now working on the Stoic symbols. I tried to copy-paste the glyph you made into the font I have been working with, but it wouldn't let me import it. I have no clue why. Ah yes. I remember struggling with...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

Thanks so much for that. I believe the double-scroll and the triple-scroll look too much alike when on a line. I believe I can improve them without compromising anything else. I should be able to get to it in a few days.

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

Yes. Thanks for that. We're definitely getting there. Can you explain why you didn't go with my version of the triple scroll, which has no close approaches between scrolls (more uniform whitespace between them)? Is it because of the middle one getting lost against a staff line? I had hoped that was ...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

I didn't check them against the staff lines. I trusted you to do that, and you didn't disappoint. I think that what this is all trying to tell us, is that we can't get away with a single shape of right scroll for all three cases: single, double and triple. What if the single right scroll for the Sto...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

Thanks for that. It's quite different from what I had in mind for the scrolls. Here's what I had in mind. Stoic Sagittal-1.sfd How do your sharps, flats and natural differ from standard ones, apart from not being as wide? In what sense do they form parallel lines with the stoic symbols, that standar...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

That was quick. I agree we don't need another shaft variant, given the way your new right scroll interacts with the shaft. In fact, to be consistent with what you've done for 9, 10, 11, I think we should have the same right slope on the top of any shaft that has any Stoic right scrolls. New list bel...

Re: Simplified "Stoic" Sagittal for 13-limit tonality diamond use

Well done Nick! Before anyone else has a go at it (I agree the Stoic right scrolls can be improved), would you please copy the middle-of-three-right-scroll and the middle-of-three-left-barb to become unencoded components, and include them in all the Stoic symbols by reference only, with appropriate ...

Re: 270edo in athenian+trojan only

As you may know, George and I agreed on the following notation for 183edo: 183: :|(: :~|(: :/|: :|): :|\: :(|(: :/|): :/|\: as given in the Scala file https://sagittal.org/sag_et.par Interestingly :)|(: rates higher than :~|(: , and it has lower fifth-slope too. Why isn't 2\183 :)|(: instead? Good ...
