Re: Ennealimmal
Yes, the number of accidentals needed in a chain of fifths notation for a rank-2 temperament is exactly the complexity of the fifth in that temperament ... How are you defining, or calculating, the complexity of a given interval in a given temperament? Thanks for the Evo notation. I agree it offers ...

Re: Ennealimmal
That staff showing an 18 note scale where every note has a different accidental is like a parody of a chain-of-fifths notation. It's the kind of thing that is likely to scare anyone away from ever considering Sagittal notation. But it's not Sagittal's fault. And it's not your fault. I spent several ...

Re: Notating 5-limit pental with added 7th harmonics
This is all good thinking. I prefer :~|::|: to :)|\\: in the 255edo notation. You have convinced me that we should create symbols with the following codepoints and names: Spartan Sagittal multi-shaft accidentals [using unused values near the end of the existing section ]: U+E336 ...

Re: Missing small EDOs in the Xenharmonikôn article
I wrote that 8 years ago. It was true when I wrote it. It had been true for the 10 years before that, and remained true for another 5 years after. In 2021 I updated sagittal.pdf to remove those EDOs because George and I had decided to recommend native-fifth notations for them, which we had developed ...

Re: A proposal to simplify the notation of EDOs with bad fifths
Thanks Roee, for those corrections, and for that JI based justification of :)|: as 1\59. I have changed the paragraph following the second table here: https://en.xen.wiki/w/Fractional_3-limit_notation#Bad-fifths_apotome-fraction_notation from "only justified by the apotome-fraction notation" to ...

Re: The Sagittal Xenharmonikôn article updated
I updated https://sagittal.org/sagittal.pdf to replace all the tildes ~ whose intended meaning was "approximately" with approximately equals signs ≈, because tilde should be reserved to mean "tempered". See https://en.xen.wiki/w/~

Re: Fractions that you're not allowed to (or choose not to) reduce, like musical time signatures
One way was: are there perhaps separate notions of irreducible numerators and denominators? With an irreducible denominator, we're essentially saying, we cut every whole pizza into 𝑑 slices, and slices simply can't be merged back together, so if you're working with six eighth slices, that's simply n ...

Capital opening quotation marks
It has sometimes bothered me that when you start a sentence with a quote that does not and should not itself begin with an upper-case letter, then one is forced to choose between failing to begin one's sentence with a capital letter or being unfaithful to the original being quoted. The usual advice ...

Re: The Sagittal Xenharmonikôn article updated
I updated the notation that 68-EDO and 75-EDO have in common in Fig 9 on page 17 of the XH article. https://sagittal.org/sagittal.pdf The first symbol changed from :|\: to :|): and consequently its apotome complement changed from :/||: to :||): . This is because :|): as the 7-comma has a lower prime ...
