Re: an approach for non-octave tunings
As with the other thread, where we discussed adding cents to scores, I think there's room for a performer's notation as different from the composer's notation. Engraving software should make that easy. In this case, the composer's notation could use special nominals, the same in each tritave, as you...

Re: Mavila notation
If you keep going, you start getting pitches that use the accidental :)||(: (25/24). So one option would be to use 25/24 as the "sharp" of mavila notation, and omit the :||\: :!!/: symbols since they don't change anything. You can notate up to 21 notes that way. B:)!!(: E:)!!(: A:)!!(: D:...

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
I agree with Yahya that your proposed unevenly-spaced lines (or more-to-the-point, unevenly-spaced staff positions) won't work very well with symbols designed for evenly-spaced lines. But there are certainly staff proposals out there, whose intent is to linearise pitch vertically (where pitch is log...

Re: Yer: a Sagittal study
You want your performers to make your music, they should be able to think about it - i.e. grasp and use the concepts - exactly as you do. If that means learning 3 new scales with, say, 13 new accidental symbols necessary to them, then so be it! Let your performers understand your scales, and practi...

Re: Prime-factor Sagittal JI notation (one symbol per prime)
I'd like to record here, something I learned about the Sagittal choice of 17-comma (4131/4096) for the prime-factor notation where 17 is notated G::~|(::b:A versus the common alternative, which is the 17-kleisma (2187/2176) where 17 is notated G::~!::#:G. I once suggested to George that we might go ...

Re: Prime-factor Sagittal JI notation (one symbol per prime)
If you prefer the vectorized version I put together for the upcoming tutorial video, I can snapshot that instead. Yes, please replace it with your new version. Done. Can I please have two tweaks to that image? 1. Nudge the inverted "1" and "3" of the 13th harmonic mnemonic up ju...

Re: general methods for linear temperament notation
Douglas, It would be good if you would split out the non porcupine stuff to a new thread. I'll leave it up to you as to whether it's a thread about Miracle notation or about how to generate linear or rank-2 notations in general (or both).

Re: Prime-factor Sagittal JI notation (one symbol per prime)
I worked out a way to extend that 13-limit stack-of-thirds staff image to prime 23 (but so far without additional mnemonics). It has odd harmonics to 25 except it omits 21 because this would be notated :!):C and so competes with 23 for the top position. That top "third" (17:23) is a doozy ...

Re: Prime-factor Sagittal JI notation (one symbol per prime)
@Dave Keenan I noticed that in the first post of this topic, the diagram is different than the one that appears on the home page. For some reason the mnemonics and actual symbols are flipped. That's fine, just curious. Except that the mnemonic for pao is... well, just a pao, not the Roman numeral m...
