Re: How should naturals be used with Sagittal?

Hi Dave, We don't have an official policy on the use of naturals with Sagittals, but if we did, I think that Sagittal symbols (both pure and mixed) should be treated the same as conventional sharps and flats. Therefore, Sagittal accidentals are always sticky for the remainder of the measure, and the...

Re: 581EDO

Thanks for all this George, for taking the time to look into this so deeply. I wouldn't have thought it would be quite this tricky, since 581 is not too far from 23- and 25-limit JI, and with 270 looking not too radical, I thought 581 would be only a bit of gap-filling from there. Obviously, I was ...

Re: 581EDO

Some combinations would need to be avoided, e.g., :'::|(::.: for 3deg581, since this symbol is already defined as 1225k (19600:19683) and would be 5deg581. Since :.::~|::': is not presently defined, that could be used instead. I made a mistake in the foregoing. :~|: is 5deg581, so :.::~|::': would ...

Re: 581EDO

I have a solution for notating 1deg581 : Define the symbol :'::|::.: as 17:121n (the 17:121-schismina, 1088:1089). This is slightly larger than 5:19n (1215:1216, ~1.424c), which is notated :.::)|: and vanishes in 581-EDO. This combination of opposite-altering diacritics (or accent marks) may then be...

Re: Notating 37EDO

Finding a symbol set for 581-EDO is problematic, to say the least, beginning with how to notate a single degree. The 5-schisma (32768:32805) :'::|: and the 65:77-schismina (2079:2080) :|::'::': [Edit: Now :``::|: ] are each 2 degrees, while the 455-schismina (4095:4096) :|::': [Edit: Now :`::|: ] va...

Re: Notating 37EDO

I haven't read most of this thread, but I do have a native notation for 37-EDO in my notes, which Dave Keenan & I must have agreed to sometime in the past. The symbol sequence is:

Re: JI Notation Spreadsheet

I have made a minor update to the Sagittal JI spreadsheet that resolves a problem associated with the one-symbol-per-prime notation. Previously there was no way to distinguish 41C (81:82) from 5C (80:81), which were represented by the same symbol :/|: at the olympian (or extreme precision) level. By...

JI Notation Spreadsheet

[Note that this is an old version of the spreadsheet. For an updated version, see https://forum.sagittal.org/viewtopic.php?p=4457#p4457 (later in this thread)] Sagittal-JI.xls Eight years ago I created a spreadsheet that computes Sagittal notation for any factored JI ratio (up to the 61 prime limit)...

Re: Welcome to the Sagittal forum

Hey, Dave, you've done a great job setting up this new forum! Those custom smilies are an especially nice touch! (This one :(!): really looks happy, and I guess you could call this one :(!/: a smiling winkie!) I haven't had a chance to follow any of the threads so far, because I've had to keep a lot...
