Re: 13-limit JI

Juhani, I'd be keen to try and notate some of the "JI classics", like some extracts of Johnston's quartets, in Sagittal. I learned the Johnston system after I first stepped into JI, and it would indeed prove an interesting comparison. I'd like to think Sagittal scores would come off lookin...

Re: Notation system for gamelismic temperaments

Very interesting! Might take me a little while to process it all, and possibly try it out. I'm not really that familiar with slendric, and not at all with gamelan. Is there any particular reason you used the consonants you did? For non-Japanese speakers, perhaps the "regular" lines where i...

Re: 22edo interval names

As :/|: :\!: are tempered out in 24EDO, it's all written using :/|\: :\!/:, i.e. showcasing 2.3.11 rather than 2.3.5. Btw 11:8 would be vai4, not vao4.

Re: Handwritten sagittal

Looks good. You've just made one mistake with "gai" :/|): which you've notated as "dai" :(|\: As for the ones you haven't named, :)|(: is "ranai", :~|(: is "sanai" and :(|(: is "janai", but I don't think they have short forms. P.S. For Japanese speak...

Re: 22edo interval names

We would use vai and vao if you wanted the 11-limit implications, but the pai/pao notation only really translates 5-limit information. If you wanted to mix and match you could, as the two commas are of course equal here, while tai/tao disappears. However, while using both vai/vao and pai/pao pairs y...

Re: 22edo interval names

Not quite. If we're only using the names for the 22 Sagittal set (i.e. the only accidentals in our mixed Sagittal set being :/|:, :\!::#:, :#:), then we might have: 1 minor 2 pai(minor) 2 pao(major) 2 major 2 minor 3 pai(minor) 3 pao(major) 3 major 3/pao 4 4 pai 4/dim 5 paoaug4/paidim 5 aug 4/pao 5 ...

Re: My general approach to notation: pitch, intervals, chords

Maybe not. Maybe I am missing something -- not fully appreciating the value of the child I helped raise. :geek:
Haha! It is quite the child! Guess we'll all have to see where it goes.

Re: Limma fraction and apotome fraction accidentals

Excellent. These were my picks for the limma-based and apotome-based accidentals too, but I wasn't 100% confident so I suggested Cryptic ask you or George. Good to see I was on the right track.

Re: "Sagispeak"

Dave, Wow, there's quite a lot to get my head around. First, I must point out that the term "flag" is used to refer only to those parts of a Sagittal symbol that are not shafts or diacritics. Noted, sorry for that. {in :)/|\:} That's not actually a diacritic. It's a flag -- the left scroll...
