Re: general methods for linear temperament notation
We use prime exponent vector together a lot. I'm comfortable enough with that I see through it as a synonym for monzo. That's hilarious, in a sad kind of way — that you have to see "through" a term that is self-explanatory to one that is arbitrary. But presumably, someone who had never ha...

Re: proportional/spatial + symbolic notation
Many years ago I bought a copy of Twentieth Century Microtonal Notation and had it sent to George as a gift. We referred to it in designing Sagittal.

Re: general methods for linear temperament notation
Okay, I see the problem, but I'm still pretty disturbed. I never learned this [ ⟩ angle bracket notation when I was studying linear algebra in college. We always just wrote things with plain brackets [ ]. Why not just use those for generator-count vectors? I never learned it in math either, but I l...

Re: general methods for linear temperament notation
It can already do this for an EDO, so yes, I agree it should be relatively simple to make it work for temperaments, too. Of course EDOs are temperaments ("rank 1" or "equal" temperaments). You mean it should be relatively simple to make it work for "rank 2" or "li...

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
J(KLM)N is an oneirotonic "fifth" in the same way that A(BCD)E is a diatonic fifth. i.e. by counting the nominals.

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
I realize 8 notes could be written with accidentals but it seems very hard to read, maybe someone can explain to me how it works. It says 18 is a subset of 36 on the sagittal periodic table. You can read off the table, that 36edo is notated with CD=DE=FG=GA=AB=6, EF=BC=3, #=3, :|): =1. Centering on...

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
Almost correct. As described in the notation section of the xen wiki article, JKLMNOPQ(J) is the mode LsLLsLsL. And as with the diatonic, the smallest oneirotonic EDO must be the one that sets L=2 and s=1, namely 5×2 + 3×1 = 13edo. 18edo has L=3, s=1.

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
So a chain of 7/18-octave generators would be notated Q:!!!): L:!!!): O:!!!): J:!!!): M:!!!): P:!!!): K:!!!): N:!!!): Q L O J M P K N Q:(|||: L:(|||: O:(|||: J:(|||: M:(|||: P:(|||: K:(|||: N:(|||: . Of course, that's 24 notes. You only need the middle 18 to notate 18edo. In pitch order, 18edo could...

Re: Notation for Oneirotonic 8 nominal scale
Sagittal is primarily a universal set of accidentals. We've always said they can be used with notations having other than 7 nominals, but we've never got into how best to do that on a staff. So we can't help you with the latter, but we can suggest a suitable accidental to use in extending the chain ...

Re: The origin of Sagittal
Here's a significant thread from the early days of Sagittal. It includes the introduction of arcs.
