Re: List of 7-prime limit / 6125-odd limit accidentals

Thanks for your reply! As a start, I separated the ratios into two lists, depending on whether they have an exact representation in the Olympian symbol set, or not. Here is my current to-do list: Complete the ratios and accidentals in the first list (exact / Olympian) Add accurate dual-accidentals a...

Re: List of 7-prime limit / 6125-odd limit accidentals

Ok, I finished the list of 7-limit ratios (including lower limits) with an exact Olympian representation: 7-limit Olympian set.pdf The list only contains up-accidentals, and I omitted cent values, systematic comma names, and very large ratios (monzos are still listed). If the data is fine, I'll upda...

Re: List of 7-prime limit / 6125-odd limit accidentals

Sorry for the late reply! I reread sagittal.pdf and your replies to make sure I understand enough about Sagittal notation with Olympian precision. I think I'm now more or less equal to the task of completing the list of 7-limit accidentals with Olympian precision. But I have a question: I know there...

Re: List of 7-prime limit / 6125-odd limit accidentals

I think your asterisk note above should say "* ambiguous, usually refers to a different comma" rather than "... different accidental". Thanks, fixed. It's probably debatable whether some of the larger ratios should be called a "comma", so I used "ratio" inste...

Re: List of 7-prime limit / 6125-odd limit accidentals

Wow, thanks for the fast and detailed reply! :) Do you know about this: http://forum.sagittal.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10&p=54&hilit=sag_ji4.par#p54 If not, you did well. What sources and algorithms did you use? Yes, I used this list, along with the Sagittal2_character_map.pdf file from t...

List of 7-prime limit accidentals

Following are two lists with ratios up to the 7-prime limit, and corresponding accidentals, sorted by odd limit: The first list contains ratios with an accurate representation in the Olympian set The second list contains other important or potentially useful ratios. Since there are no corresponding ...

Re: 22 EDO

To be performed on a 19 or 41-edo instrument it would be best if it was translated into the standard notation for 19 or 41-edo, which have a one-to-one correspondence between numbers of steps plus or minus and Sagittal symbols. I wonder about that. On one hand, a minimum number of accidentals can i...

Re: 22 EDO

Hi Dave, Hi Xen, Although I find your analogy somewhat strained, I think you make a good point -- not that we need multiple notations for 22-edo -- we really want to get away from one-notation-per-composer-per-edo -- but that it would be good to standardise Sagittal notations for the most popular li...

Re: 22 EDO

I agree that you should not use :/|\: or :)|: in notating 22-edo pitches, particularly if you intend it to be read by anyone else. I don't recommend using them in naming 22-edo intervals either. In JI, an 8:11 from C could be notated C:F:/|\: , and as a composer thinking in terms of 11-limit JI, yo...

Re: "Sagispeak"

I completely agree with Cam, using an additional key to toggle up/down direction of accidentals is much more intuitive for me than using different letters, even if those are nearby on the keyboard. About the single-character ASCII notation: I agree that o isn't that much of a problem when you use an...
