Well George, we've slept on it for 9 months now, and there has recently been a request on one of the facebook groups, for someone to add the corresponding Sagittal notation(s) to every EDO entry in the Xenharmonic Wiki. So we really ought to decide whether these will become the new standard notation...

Relative to the notations given in http://sagittal.org/sagittal.pdf at the time of writing, this proposal will add native-fifth notations for the following seventeen EDOs: 6, 8, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 28, 30, 32, 35, 37, 42, 52, 54, 59, 71. And it will change the existing native-fifth notations for the...

Here's is the final version, which George and I agree on, of all the EDO native-fifth notations resulting from this proposal. First we show all of the proposed apotome-fraction notations. These are for the EDOs whose best fifths are more than 7.5 c wider than just (> 709.5 c) (wider than those of 22...

Margo, I believe your notation is the best possible Sagittal notation for those tunings. I note that since (|) is the apotome-complement of /|\, you can avail yourself of alternative spellings such as Bb/|\ (B flat vai) = B(!) (B wao). Also, you may find it more convenient to use the shorthand way o...

Thanks for those, Margo. My apologies for the delay in the appearance of your posts. The first post by every new member must be approved by a moderator (me) as an anti-spam measure. But at least in this forum, once that first post is approved you have full access and full capabilities, unlike the Xe...

The only difference between the notation above, and that given earlier in this thread (for 5 nominals), is that :~~|: has been eliminated, and the use of :)~|: has been extended to include 1/4 and 1/5 apotome. So only the 20-edo and 25-edo notations have changed. 5edo: C D E G A 10edo: C D:\!): D E:...

We now have a better rationale for 5n-edo notations (and other "bad fifth" EDOs), thanks to suggestions by Cryptic Ruse / Igliashon Jones. See this thread: http://forum.sagittal.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=256 The proposal looks like this for 5n-edos (in mixed Sagittal): 5n-edos: A:B C:D D...

George wrote in email (on 2016-Sep-30): Oops, you're right! |||~) would have been 7:23S (45927:47104) + an apotome, which we might have been considering at one time, but we chose 5:13M (405:416) instead. For some reason I never updated my EDO-degrees spreadsheet with the change. Fortunately, a symbo...

So, the only change required to George's last proposal is to eliminate 17C :~|(: for 8 degrees in favour of 143C :~~|: for 9 degrees. However, I note that we do not need the non-athenian symbol 5:23S :/|~: for 18 degrees and suggest we eliminate it to reduce the number of cores that must be learned....

Since there are 6 symbols, there are 2⁶ subsets, and we can enumerate them as a binary count. The right-hand column indicates at least one condition that the subset violates. ">3" = gap wider than 3 degrees. "~|" = incompatible left boathook values. "<->" size order rev...
