Re: Sagittal notations for MET-24 tuning

Margo, I believe your notation is the best possible Sagittal notation for those tunings. I note that since (|) is the apotome-complement of /|\, you can avail yourself of alternative spellings such as Bb/|\ (B flat vai) = B(!) (B wao). Also, you may find it more convenient to use the shorthand way o...

Re: Sagittal notations for MET-24 tuning

Thanks for those, Margo. My apologies for the delay in the appearance of your posts. The first post by every new member must be approved by a moderator (me) as an anti-spam measure. But at least in this forum, once that first post is approved you have full access and full capabilities, unlike the Xe...

Re: 5n edos

The only difference between the notation above, and that given earlier in this thread (for 5 nominals), is that :~~|: has been eliminated, and the use of :)~|: has been extended to include 1/4 and 1/5 apotome. So only the 20-edo and 25-edo notations have changed. 5edo: C D E G A 10edo: C D:\!): D E:...

Re: 5n edos

We now have a better rationale for 5n-edo notations (and other "bad fifth" EDOs), thanks to suggestions by Cryptic Ruse / Igliashon Jones. See this thread: http://forum.sagittal.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=256 The proposal looks like this for 5n-edos (in mixed Sagittal): 5n-edos: A:B C:D D...

Re: 7n edos

George wrote in email (on 2016-Sep-30): Oops, you're right! |||~) would have been 7:23S (45927:47104) + an apotome, which we might have been considering at one time, but we chose 5:13M (405:416) instead. For some reason I never updated my EDO-degrees spreadsheet with the change. Fortunately, a symbo...

Re: 581EDO

So, the only change required to George's last proposal is to eliminate 17C :~|(: for 8 degrees in favour of 143C :~~|: for 9 degrees. However, I note that we do not need the non-athenian symbol 5:23S :/|~: for 18 degrees and suggest we eliminate it to reduce the number of cores that must be learned....

Re: 581EDO

Since there are 6 symbols, there are 2⁶ subsets, and we can enumerate them as a binary count. The right-hand column indicates at least one condition that the subset violates. ">3" = gap wider than 3 degrees. "~|" = incompatible left boathook values. "<->" size order rev...

Re: 581EDO

Of course we should use the lowest prime symbols for degrees 2 and 11. I only included the 19s and 19C symbols so you'd know I hadn't forgotten them, and that there really are no unaccented symbols that map to 3 or 10 degrees. But the left scroll must still have the value 2 since we want :/|\: = 26 ...

Re: 581EDO

So it all comes down to finding sufficient unaccented symbols between 2 and 11 degrees, without any size-order reversals, and with consistent flag arithmetic. We can have gaps of at most 3 degrees between unaccented symbols. Here are all the options. Size order reversals are indicated by "<->&q...

Re: 581EDO

I believe there was a typo for 6°581, which should be :.::|~:. I have corrected this, and added mixed-sagittal below. I have also checked that your double-shaft symbols correctly match the mixed sagittal, as per figure 13 on page 24 of http://sagittal.org/sagittal.pdf . The remaining problems with t...
